Actually, DON’T tune out the news!

"Why do you let this 3D noise bother you? Focus on the bigger picture!"
— said a well-meaning friend as I was busy processing a violent event that could have had profound consequences for the whole country.

The sentiment that my friend expressed is quite common among spiritual seekers. I’m sure you’ve heard some version of it before:

“Focus on the reality you want to inhabit.”
“External events are all just an illusion and distraction.”
“Don’t lower your vibe — turn off the news!”

While there’s a nugget of truth in all these statements, I would like to highlight one issue with this general view. Now, this is my personal opinion, and you may completely disagree with me! This article may not change your mind, but my hope is that it at least sparks some thoughts.

You see, over the past decade or so, I've traveled the continuum from conventional “3D thinking” to the spiritual worldview to the tune of: "We're all just playing in the mind of Source, nothing is separate from us, and we create our reality."

At this point in time, I find myself balancing the two worlds… In my mind, there's place for both: a spiritually-informed view AND basic human ethics and realities. We can hold both perspectives, and we can shift from one to the other as needed.

After all, human events unfolding in 3D are not mere “illusions” if they can drastically affect someone’s reality. If you’re still buying groceries and gasoline, guess what: there’s still at least a part of you that’s in 3D and affected by the policies that made those groceries and gas so darn expensive! 😅

Often, 3D events are physical manifestations of whatever is unfolding on the spiritual planes. It amuses me how it’s become rather common for political pundits to comment that “we are in a spiritual war” — something that we in woo-woo circles have been saying for quite some time! 😉 Well, this spiritual war is fought on multiple dimensional fronts, and I think we shouldn’t completely dismiss the 3D layer of it just yet.

Some spiritual voices that you follow may be telling you to ignore what’s happening in 3D and focus solely on the Ascension. On the one hand, I deeply understand that waking ourselves and others up to the true nature of reality is the most direct and effective way, if not the only way, to win this “war”. At the same time, we still have a voice and a role to play in 3D, and avoiding it feels like a dereliction of our duty as an incarnated human, who is meant to participate in shaping the collective trajectory with his or her choices and actions, not just vibration.

We didn't incarnate into a 3D reality to spend all our time refusing to see what’s happening in it! 😅

And I know — 3D gets dark and scary and hopeless at times, and it can be overwhelming to process everything that's going on around us. Dissociating from the harsh reality and finding solace in the spiritual realm (or work, or entertainment) feels more manageable. And it sure is easy to use a spiritual platitude about higher perspectives to excuse ourselves from taking an honest look at the sinister events of our times.

But, if that's all we do, is it not cope? Selfishness? Cowardice? Quite honestly, I have much respect for the brave folks fighting on the frontlines, getting all muddy… (These days, the “frontlines” are typically the Internet, and the “mud” is the dirt people smear on our name when we speak inconvenient truths.) While we all contribute in some way, those warriors sure are making a bigger sacrifice than those of us meditating in safety and not getting involved.

As a side note, all major religious traditions teach some flavor of a concept of engaged action in the community. Why is it that New Agers are so often discouraged from watching the news and engaging with society? Is there some conspiracy to keep us focused on “love and light” and out of the affairs that matter? Just a question. 😉

Here’s why I think it’s crucial for us to be well-informed about what’s going on in 3D.

1) When we’re uninformed, we don’t take action.

And the tragic consequence of this approach is aptly captured by a saying: "Evil thrives when good people do nothing".

When good people don’t get informed and don't bother to vote, malicious figures come to power, and everyone suffers.

When good people don’t ask questions and don't get involved, harmful changes are implemented in their workplaces, local communities, and countries.

Examples abound.

So don't look away.

2) When we’re not sufficiently informed, we’re likely to take unwise action.

It never ceases to amaze me how many spiritually advanced people with otherwise great insight still fall for the outrageous lies propagated in politics and the media.

If we only skim the news headlines and believe things as they are presented, we’ll buy into a great deception. Much of what we see in legacy media outlets appeals to the goodness of our hearts while presenting us with an inversion of truth. And many things are deceptively named as the opposite of what they actually do.

If we vote or take other action based on that limited “information”, we will likely be acting against our own best interests!

To be truly well-informed, it takes an open mind, an effort to find and examine facts, and a devotion to truth — even if this truth ends up turning everything we believe upside down. We have to want the truth more than we want to be right, to feel good, and to be accepted by other people.

So don’t stop there after reading the headlines — pursue truth!

Of course — we don't want to let 3D drag us down, lower our vibe, and stop our growth!

By all means, we have to take breaks from the news and zoom out to see a bigger perspective. Yes, once we start following the news closely, there’s a risk to get stuck in anger and outrage and to lose sight of the bigger picture. Maintaining balance is an important skill to develop!

I find Sandra Walter’s teachings on Divine Neutrality super helpful during this time. Practicing Divine Neutrality means being able to observe with a clear mind and heart, not judge, not get pulled into an emotional reaction, but rather access the higher perspective of Divine Will, peace, love, unity, and the highest good of all. Then, from this place of wisdom and clarity, the most appropriate course of action will follow — whether it’s to say or do something helpful, energetically neutralize negativity, or not engage at all.

I’m still working on finding my balance between caring about 3D happenings and taking action on the one hand, and the ideal of Divine Neutrality and trusting the Divine Will on the other.

On a positive note, this turbulent time in history is a great opportunity for us to develop mastery at being a human who is aware of multiple dimensions and able to balance multiple perspectives!

I do believe that, until we're in higher realms, what happens in the world still matters, as the effect trickles down, in one way or another, to each and every one of us. I hope you choose not to look away from what’s happening in the world.

May we all find wisdom + balance on this journey. 🤍

P. S. We know by now that traditional media outlets cannot be trusted as a source of truth. I prefer to get my news from X (formerly Twitter), where we can get instant reports on developing events from a variety of diverse firsthand sources. With access to direct evidence plus a wide spectrum of views, we can form our own opinion on what we see, rather than being told what to think. Of course, the platform is not immune to accounts that lie and propagandize, so please always use discernment and check a variety of sources. ✌️
