Do this before going into a healing session or group meditation

So you went to a relaxing Reiki session or a lovely group meditation. And the next day you’re not feeling so great — your mind is full of dark thoughts, you feel “off”, disconnected, and the discomfort isn’t going away.

What happened?

One grim task I often do as a practitioner is removing from people a variety of negative energetic influences: harmful spirit attachments, energy cords, dark portals, etc.

Those unpleasant phenomena can mess with us in ways big and small: inspire negative emotions and thoughts, distort or block our intuition, drain our life force, even cause health issues — just to name a few.

There are many ways those suckers can enter our energy field, including: past-life trauma, soul contracts, negative choices made in this life, medical procedures, strong negative emotions…

However, there’s one unexpected way in which we can open the door for them to come in — and, ironically, it’s when we seek healing or spiritual help for ourselves.

Have you ever received energy healing such as Reiki? Been in trance during a past life regression? Participated in an online or in-person group session where people engaged in meditation, channeling, other spiritual practices?

All of those things can open you up to energetic infringements. Here’s why.

When we agree to energetically engage with a person or a group, we implicitly consent to also be in contact with whatever is associated with that person or group, seen or unseen.

This can include:

  • negative entities and spirits attached to or otherwise connected to the practitioner or fellow group participant

  • dark forces associated with the method being practiced or the community

  • negative energies in the physical environment or connected to technology used for the session

In the majority of cases, the person conducting a session or group activity has good intentions and is completely unaware that their energy or environment is compromised and that there’s a risk of harm to you — the client or participant. This is often due to ignorance and lack of education about these matters.

In a minority of cases, there can even be a conscious intention to harm or spiritually enslave a person.

In my practice, I’ve seen quite a few cases where negative entities, cords, and other harmful influences were the result of participating in healing sessions or group work, both with and without negative intent on the part of the practitioner/teacher.

So what can you do to prevent that from happening to you? Stay away from healing sessions and group meditations for the rest of your life? 😉

That’s one option, although wouldn’t that be terribly restrictive?

I think there’s a better solution: besides being VERY selective about who you trust with your energy, you can also state your “rules of engagement” before participating in any kind of session.

You’re a sovereign Being, and you get to decide who and what gets access to your energy.

To prevent unseen things from sneaking in, you can explicitly state your energetic + spiritual rules and boundaries for participating in the activity.

Here’s one concrete suggestion for how to do that.

Before going into any session with a practitioner or participating in group work led by someone else, take a few moments to get centered, and then state the following intention. Note that this is an example, and you’re welcome to modify it to fit better with your particular situation and beliefs.

“I call in my Higher Self, my Spirit Guides, my Angels, and Archangel Michael.  These are my rules and boundaries as a sovereign Being:

By participating in [name the session or activity], I do not consent to any new soul contracts or agreements, explicit or implicit.

Regarding any negative energies, entities, spirits, technologies, and other negative phenomena present within the practitioner [group leader, teacher, etc], associated with the practitioner, associated with the methods she practices, associated with the communities she's part of, present in the physical environment, associated with the location or technology used, or otherwise accessed during my session:
I do not consent for those phenomena to enter my body and energy field at any time nor interact with me in any way before, during, and after the session.

I do not consent to anything not of my own soul essence to be added to any level of my Being, with the exception of pure Source energy and healing energy as needed and if permitted by my Higher Self.

I do not consent to any interference or deception, internal or external, before, during, and after my session.

If these conditions cannot be met or are violated, I ask my Higher Self and Guides to interrupt the process and alert me.

I ask for divine protection before, during, and after the session.

So be it, and so it is.“

Some might argue that bringing up all these influences will only inspire fear and make it more likely for something bad to happen. And, of course, you’re free to choose your beliefs. Here’s how I would respond to that concern though:

First of all, the purpose of this is not to instill fear, but to set our boundaries with the spirit realm, just like we do with people and the physical world. When we wash our hands before a meal, we don’t do it out of fear, but to prevent unwanted substances from getting into our body and causing trouble.

And secondly, most folks who ended up with those yucky influences in their field as a result of a healing session went into it with complete trust and without fear, yet this was the result.

To me, this is about being aware of what exists, honoring our own energy, and having good boundaries.
